BCB President’s letter suspended

Desk Report:

A new legal complication has arisen surrounding the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections. Four candidates have filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the validity of the letter sent by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul regarding the nomination of district and divisional level councilors from Category-1.

After hearing the writ at 3:30 pm today (Monday), the court suspended the validity of the letter for 15 days. At the same time, the BCB has been asked to respond to the writ within the next 10 working days.

It is worth noting that the letter signed by the BCB President on September 18 was sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. According to that letter, the obligation of the ad hoc committee in the councilor nomination process has come into question.

The writ petitioner, Barrister Ruhul Quddus, said at a press conference, ‘We have presented the BCB constitution before the court; In particular, I have shown by mentioning Article 9 that there is no obligation to nominate councilors from the ad hoc committee.’

He also said, ‘Since the court has suspended the validity of the letter today, the names of the previous councilors can be included in the draft voter list. As a result, there is no fear of the election being disrupted.’

According to the writ petitioner, the election schedule will remain as before. The draft voter list, which was supposed to be published at 7 pm today, will also be published at the scheduled time.
